Emergency Alert Test – Important Information for Domestic Abuse Survivors

The UK Government’s Emergency Alerts system is designed to warn and advise the public during life-threatening emergencies. The next nationwide test is scheduled for Sunday, 7th September 2025 at 3:00 PM.

Following the first test in April 2023, the national charity Refuge raised concerns about the impact on survivors of domestic abuse who may have hidden mobile devices. Receiving an alert on such a device could compromise their safety.

The guidance remains clear: if someone has a hidden phone for safety reasons, they should be supported to ‘opt out’ of receiving Emergency Alerts on that device.

If you know someone who may be at risk or currently living with an abusive partner, please share this information with them. We also encourage you to circulate this message among colleagues and networks to ensure it reaches those who may need it most.
