No recourse to Public Funds as a weapon of Abuse Training

In the UK, Black and Minoritised Victims and Survivors (BMVS) of Domestic Abuse and Sexual Violence (DA/SV) who have insecure immigration status face additional challenges when trying to access support. This is also true in Devon where victims may face additional challenges due to the geography and population profile of the county.

These challenges have resulted in decisions to deny support on the bases of immigration status and contributes to an increased risk of abuse and harm. If processes and practices are not understood fully and adhered to by professionals this could lead to legal challenges, reputational damage and accusations of discriminatory practice

Following on from our successful fully funded training program for professionals from the statutory and voluntary sector, The Olive Project is pleased to launch its fully funded one day training program on Immigration as a weapon of abuse: lawful and effective responses.

The training will provide professionals with the knowledge and skills to respond to victims who have insecure immigration status in a lawful and trauma informed manner.

The training will include:

·       How can you better support DA victims and survivors with no recourse to public funds who are from black and minoritised groups.

·       Raising awareness about the legal duties on supporting victims and survivors with the NRPF condition and insecure immigration status.

·       Effective response tools to negative/non-compliant decisions regarding immigration and abuse.

·       Challenges faced by Black and Minoritised Victims and Survivors in relation to insecure immigration status and the NRPF condition.

·       Challenges faced by Black and Minoritised Victims and Survivors in relation to Domestic Abuse and Sexual Violence.
